This nightโ€™s full moon, the closest to the September equinox, is the Harvest Moon. Our friend Pat (e-Quips) published a lovely poem about it: you can read it here

In the Northern Hemisphere the Harvest Moon is astronomically significant because even though the time between one moonrise and the next becomes shorter (typically, the Moon rises on average 50 minutes later each day), the satellite tends to rise at about the same time for the few nights that proceed and follow the equinox.
In the past, the light of the full moon meant that farmers could work and harvest their crops until late at night.

Neil Young wrote the song the Harvest Moon, the title track from the album released in 1992.

Come a little bit closer
