National Pollution Prevention Day (India): 2nd December

NationalPollution Prevention Dayis observed on 2ndDecember in India. Thisdayis observed in the memory of people who lost their lives in Bhopal gas calamity. Bhopal gas tragedy occurred in the year 1984 on the night of 2–3 December.

Pollution prevention protects the environment by conserving and protecting natural resources while strengthening economic growth through more efficient production in industry and less need for households, businesses and communities to handle waste.
Pollution prevention(P2) is a strategy for reducing the amount ofwastecreated and released into the environment, particularly byindustrialfacilities,agriculture, or consumers. Many large corporations view P2 as a method of improving the efficiency andprofitabilityofproduction processesbywaste reductionandtechnology advancements.Legislative bodies have enacted P2 measures, such as thePollution Prevention Act of 1990and theClean Air Act Amendments of 1990by theUnited States Congress.
