PRAVASI BHARATIYA DIVAS ~ NRI DAY 🇮🇳

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Non-Resident Indian Day) is a celebratory day observed (starting in 2001) on 9 January by the Republic of India to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community towards the development of India. The day commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to Mumbai on 9 January 1915.

Established in 2000, it is sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Confederation of Indian Industries and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. A celebratory event is held on 7–9 January every other year in an Indian city: a forum for issues concerning the Indian Diaspora is organised and the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards are given.

The decision to celebrate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was taken in accordance with recommendations of the High Level Committee (HLC) on the Indian Diaspora set up by government of India under the chairmanship of L. M. Singhvi. The then Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, received the report of the Committee at a public function at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on 8 January 2002, and announced the “Pravasi Bharatiya Divas” (PBD) on 9 January 2002. The day was chosen to mark the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India in 1915.

The occasion is marked by special programs to recognise the contributions of NRI/PIO individuals of exceptional merit, felicitate NRI/PIO individuals who have made exceptional contributions in their chosen field/profession (Pravasi Bharatiya Samman (NRI/PIO Award)) and provide a forum to discuss issues and concerns of people of the diaspora. The event has been organised every year since 2003, and is sponsored by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), initially sponsored by FICCI.

In 2006, the concept of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) was launched during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention at Hyderabad on 9 January.

UNWORTHY TO WRITE

Ruelha's avatarInhale Peace; Exhale Love. Joy will Follow! - RUELHA

I will no longer be posting,
Religious issues and somethings.
Nothing like that henceforth.
Unless you hold a knife to my throat.
I'm just unworthy.
Although cleansed by mercy.
So no more spiritual posts.
I don't know anything real to boast.
I'm still learning...
myself, and discovering.
I don't know what I believe in.
I don't care if I lose or win.
I just want to maintain my peace.
And of course, not be out on the streets.
I want to spend some time alone.
Introspecting in my own zone.
So, if you've been following me,
I sincerely thank thee.
But, my posts will change dramatically.
Because I need to believe thoroughly.
If I myself don't know,
how must I, the way to show!
In pensive melancholy,
I bid adieu with an apology.
I encourage you,
to continue and pursue.
While I seek myself.
out of the dark well.

EDUCATE, DO NOT CONFUSE

GITA WISDOM # 56

Chapter 3 Verse 29

When the followers err in understanding the subtle differences between various behavioural issues, the discerning leaders shall try to educate them instead of creating more confusion. (3.29)

॥29॥

MAY BE

Sheereen's avatarThe Lightening bug

Hiding beneath the layers of masks, lies a little child with innocent eyes and golden heart. This masquerade has been prolonged for far too long. The heart craves for freedom and the mind its peace, may be the ulterior universe has it all!

May be one day, the oppressed strength, the unshed tears and the suppressed emotions find their way back, to stand tall against the injustice, that started it all!

May be one day, the cowardly brave evolves into a lion heart.

May be one day, this piercing hopelessness shapes into acceptance and faith.

May be, just may be, one day, life is what it is and not the romanticisation of pain and hope.

Yayy. I survived upto 50th post.

Chapter 3 Verse 26

The knowledgeable leaders do not create confusion amongst the followers. They tend to set up a worthy example for the juniors by following the right course of action and ensure that the others follow their path. (3.26)

WHAT TO DO WITH NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

PAUSE

Era's avatarTHE HIDDEN SOUL

We assure and reassure ourselves, it is ok, it is absolutely fine, it is just a little late, everything will fall into place one day, till then keep some patience and wait. But does it worth the wait? Does it worth your time? Always trying to be positive, but how can one be positive all the time, negativity does stick sometimes around, everything seems too meaningless, doesn’t it? It feels like over positive behavior too can cause pain unknown to us, creating more misery? Even why, when, what, and how becomes senseless questions with no answers, laughing at us. Giggling finally they succeed in crushing the wall of confidence, minor but damage is executed. Seems bizarre? How easily we broke on silliest things around, don’t we or maybe not, and sometimes strongest of storms can’t make us leave our path, seems strange, isn’t it?

If we can’t accept what…

Zoya Ke Jazbaat's avatarZoya Ke Jazbaat
