POWER OF A MOTHER’S LOVE

YOURLASTDAYONEARTH

It was Mother’s Day.We were having brunch at a country club. The emcee asked if anyone wanted to share about their moms.Without hesitation, I walked up and the mic was placed in my hands.I was just a kid and full of life. I joyfully shared how much I love my mom, what I appreciate about her and that she’s like my best friend. It looked like everyone was smiling and clapping, except my mom.She seemed really angry. My dad asked why she was so upset. She didn’t thank or hug me.I had angered and embarrassed her.

Years went on and I admired my mom.I thought she was beautiful and always wanted to do things with her.She wasn’t interested in my life. I was always a pest to her. She’d call me names and put me down.My dad would beat me, she was right there.

One night my uncle molested me in the car,my…

IT’S TIME TO WAKE UP ~

Deborah Ann Belka's avatarCHRISTian poetry ~ by deborah ann

The alarm has been set,
the hour is drawing near
and in these perilous days
the wake-up call is clear.

The signs are all around,
just as we’ve been told
lovers of their own selves
are getting more bold.

Just take a look around,
and tell me what you see
haters of good and God
you can no longer flee.

You can see the proud,
up and down our streets
parading in defiance
on their self-serving feet.

Children are being taught,
to choose a new gender
destroying young lives
God considers tender.

Standing on our corners,
you’ll find those begging
for you to support
their ungodly way of living.

It time to wake up,
and hear the warning bell . . .
or else life here on earth
will be become a living hell!

TURNING LAUGHTER INTO RESILIENCE : A LESSON FROM MARCUS AURELIUS

Humanity is funny: Despite thousands of years of knowledge, we can never seem to get out of our own way.

And the punchline is this:

All of our questions already have answers.

Here’s what I mean…

Recently life threw me a Banana peel, and like a mushroomed-out Mario Kart driver, I slipped on it and spun out of control.

And what was once a promising career ended in a Zoom meeting; in other words, I was laid off.

And when you’re laid off, you feel everything, fear, excitement, joy, pain. Everything.
But as uncertainty sunk its fangs deep into my neck until I felt a prick, I looked up and saw a nearly 2,000-year-old quote that completely changed my thoughts on the situation.

If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.”

― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

And damn, is it ever so true.

Let’s take a practical life example. You’ve been hitting the gym harder than a punching bag that owes you money, trying to get ready for a vacation, when one day, you overhear someone snickering at your workout routine, making fun of your efforts. Your self-esteem takes a hit, and you start questioning whether all those hours spent sweating it out were even worth it.

But wait, according to our stoic mentor Marcus, the laughter doesn’t cause the pain; it’s your estimate of their laughter that stings. Now, that’s some powerful knowledge! You can choose to interpret their snickering in multiple ways.

For example, maybe they’re jealous of your dedication, maybe they’re projecting their insecurities, or maybe they’re just having a lousy day and need to laugh at anything to cope. So, the real power lies in your hands. You have the ability to revoke the negative interpretation and reframe the situation. Instead of feeling down, you can embrace the humor in the moment and chuckle along, knowing that their laughter has zero impact on your fitness journey.

And it’s not just fitness; it’s life. Work, relationships, friends. The whole spread.

In essence, Marcus Aurelius is nudging us to develop resilience and emotional mastery. Life will always throw curveballs, and people will always have opinions, but you get to decide how you react to them. It’s like being the director of your own emotional blockbuster. You can edit the script, rewrite the scenes, and choose the emotions you want to star in your movie called life.

Your new job may be hard, but it’s harder in your head than in reality. Your relationship may not be perfect, but it’s better than you think. If you want to get the most out of life, win the battle in your head. Embrace the hard life, my friends, for that’s where the buried treasure lies.

No pirate ever found gold by sipping cocktails on a beach with a tiny umbrella. They did it by spending time out on the water. So, strap on your adventure hats and set sail for the rough seas because life’s biggest rewards are hidden in the wildest storms.

And remember, next time life tosses a banana peel your way, channel your inner Marcus Aurelius and don’t slip on that sucker. Instead, laugh it off, and keep on truckin’.

MUHARRAM

Debasis Nayak's avatarB +Ve!!

Muḥarram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It is one of the four sacred months of the year when warfare is forbidden. It is held to be the second holiest month after Ramadan.

The tenth day of Muharram is known as Ashura. Better known as part of the Mourning of Muharram, Shi’i Muslims mourn the tragedy of Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī’s family, and Sunni Muslims practice fasting on Ashura.

Muslims mourn the martyrdom of Ḥusayn and his family, honoring the martyrs by prayer and abstinence from joyous events. Shiʿi Muslims eat as little as possible on the Ashura; however, this is not seen as fasting. Alevis fast twelve days, each day for one of the Twelve Imams of Shiʿa Islam, to commemorate and mourn the Imams, as if a very close relative has passed away. Some (excluding children, elderly or sick) don’t eat or drink until zawal (afternoon) as…

PERCEPTION

Wake up and go,
do what you do,
laugh like a fool,
try to play cool.
Go through the day,
no time to play,
emotions sway,
in disarray.
Hold a brave face,
keep it in place,
another chase,
an unknown race.
Good afternoon,
never too soon,
horrible swoon,
howl at the moon.
Another night,
turn off the light,
thoughts hold too tight,
slumber picks fight.

Wake up and go,
love what you do,
a happy fool,
naturally cool.
Go through this day,
make time to play,
emotions sway,
enjoy sun rays.
Bright smiling face,
that stays in place,
no need to chase,
effortless race.
Good afternoon,
time flies too soon,
internal swoon,
hello full moon.
A better night,
peaceful and light,
hold pillow tight,
slumber wins fight.

HUMANITY

My grandpa dissuaded us from getting on these rickshaws, as it felt cruel to have a human pull your weight. By refraining, we deprived the rickshaw-puller of his income. But there is no end to certain ethical dilemmas.

Then, came the cycle-rickshaw which was also a novelty for us. We had none of those in the metropolitan city of Bombay where we lived.

I often wondered why the seat is tilted forward, making it difficult to maintain balance. Probably, it made the cycle-rickshaw driver’s task easy.

Can we tilt the seats forward, whenever we impose our burden on less-privileged beings?

Debasis Nayak's avatarB +Ve!!

Nelson Mandela International Day (or Mandela Day) is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday.

The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010. However, other groups began celebrating Mandela Day on 18 July 2009.

Mandela Day is not meant as a public holiday, but as a day to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s former President, and his values, through volunteering and community service.

Mandela Day is a global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world, the ability to make an impact.

To mark the first global celebration of Mandela Day on 18 July 2009, Mandela’s 91st birthday, a series of educational, art exhibit, fund-raising and volunteer events leading up to a concert…

LEARNING FIRST-AID AS A SERVICE

https://www.afai.co.in/

The first aid training program aims to train people and equip them with hands-on skills to save a life. So that they become skilled first-responders when there is an emergency; not remain mere onlookers.

Studies reveal that Bystanders can be of great help during medical emergencies especially CARDIAC ARREST. It is a life-threatening event when every second matters.

Just by giving basic aid like CPR, the  chance of revival can be increased by threefold.

Hence, it is crucial to train people about the BASIC FIRST AID, CPR and use of AED. This workforce can save the lives of people in malls, offices, hotels, streets, theaters, schools, colleges and every place that can’t be imagined.

The term “Service to mankind is service to God” means that selfless service for the cause of humanity is as important as worshiping God. Love of mankind is, in Vivekananda’s opinion, the worship of God. This is the gist of all worship is to be pure and to do well to others.

WORLD EMOJI DAY 😀

Debasis Nayak's avatarB +Ve!!

World Emoji Day is an annual unofficial holiday occurring on 17 July, intended to celebrate emoji; in the years since the earliest observance, it has become a popular date to make product or other announcements and releases relating to emoji.

World Emoji Day is “the brainchild of Jeremy Burge” according to CNBC which stated that the “London-based founder of Emojipedia created it” in 2014.

The New York Times reported that Burge created this on 17 July “based on the way the calendar emoji is shown on iPhones”. For the first World Emoji Day, Burge told The Independent “there were no formal plans put in place” other than choosing the date. The Washington Post suggested in 2018 that readers use this day to “communicate with only emoji”.

NBC reported that the day was Twitter’s top trending item on 17 July in 2015. In 2016, Google changed the appearance of Unicode character…
