IT’S JUST THAT

Lishaka Gulati's avatarPoetry by Lishaka

its just that
surviving
isn’t the same as living

and saying thank you
isn’t the same as having gratitude

its just that
loving someone
doesn’t necessarily mean you’re in love

and at times
changing the world
doesn’t necessarily mean you’re saving the world

it’s just that
not knowing, what’s happening around you
doesn’t necessarily mean
you’re living under a rock

and being married
doesn’t necessarily mean
that you’re settled

its just that
we got to try
to not be disillusioned
by these so called
‘grown-up’ perspectives

its just that
we got to try
to not let faith
be based
solely on comfort
and excuses

it’s just that
we got to try
to not let that magic
within us
die

its just that
we got to try
to live our life
and not just
survive

PICTURE TALK # 02

There is very little to be written about this picture which is self descriptive. As well educated human beings we need to care for our parents at their old age the same way they did for us when we’re little kids. We should never forget their love, affection, care and sacrifice in bringing us up to become responsible adults.

Let’s be more caring and affectionate to all …

MARADONA ~ A TRIBUTE

Diego Armando Maradona (30 October 1960 – 25 November 2020) was an Argentine professional football player and manager. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, he was one of the two joint winners of the FIFA Player of the 20th Century award.

Maradona’s vision, passing, ball control, and dribbling skills were combined with his small stature (1.65 metres (5 ft 5 in), which gave him a low centre of gravity allowing him to maneuver better than most other football players; he would often dribble past multiple opposing players on a run. His presence and leadership on the field had a great effect on his team’s general performance, while he would often be singled out by the opposition.

In addition to his creative abilities, he possessed an eye for goal and was known to be a free-kick specialist. A precocious talent, Maradona was given the nickname “El Pibe de Oro” (“The Golden Kid”), a name that stuck with him throughout his career.

HOW TO AVOID LENDING PEOPLE MONEY

Gottfried's avatarBanter Republic

We’ve all been there really. Being asked for money and looking for a way out of the really uncomfortable spot. Because in all honesty, lending money might put your own current and/or future financial security at risk. Humans generally are insatiable and are ready to borrow you into penury. You owe it to yourself to make an ‘attempt’ to stop this from happening. It’s always worse if the leeches are members of your immediate family. But there’s hope! Here are a few ways out.

Make it a policy. Before lending out money to a friend, decide which you need most. It’s really not enough to make this policy, you have to enforce it. The policy is really simple, never lend money to family and friends. I’ll tell you this straight up, it’s a lot easier to get your money back from strangers than family and/or friends. With strangers, you…

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY!

Thanksgiving is a federal holiday in the United States, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It is sometimes called American Thanksgiving (outside the United States) to distinguish it from the Canadian holiday of the same name.

It originated as a harvest festival, and the centerpiece of Thanksgiving celebrations remains Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner traditionally consists of foods and dishes indigenous to the Americas, namely turkey, potatoes (usually mashed), stuffing, squash, corn (maize), green beans, cranberries (typically in sauce form), and pumpkin pie.

In American culture Thanksgiving is regarded as the beginning of the fall–winter holiday season, which includes Christmas and the New Year.

JUST BRILLIANT

Ranjini Madhavan's avatarRanjus travel blog

Just brilliant…

  1. If your child lies to you often, it is because you over-react too harshly to their inappropriate behaviour.
  2. If your child is not taught to confide in you about their mistakes, you’ve lost them.
  3. If your child had poor self-esteem, it is because you advice them more than you encourage them.
  4. If your child does not stand up for themselves, it is because from a young age you have disciplined them regularly in public.
  5. If your child takes things that do not belong to them, it is because when you buy them things, you don’t let them chose what they want.
  6. If your child is cowardly, it is because you help them too quickly.
  7. If your child does not respect other people’s feelings, it is because instead of speaking to your child, you order and command them.
  8. If your child is too quick to anger, it is because…

An executive has to conduct a field study of the market, before making decisions. That is exemplified by Arjuna’s action, when he asked Krishna to station his chariot in between the two armies, so that he can assess the strength of his opponents. (1.23)

NATIONAL MILK DAY 🇮🇳

National Milk Day (India) : 26 November

Verghese Kurien (26 November 1921 – 9 September 2012), known as the “Father of the White Revolution” in India, was a social entrepreneur whose “billion-litre idea”, Operation Flood, made dairy farming India’s largest self-sustaining industry and the largest rural employment sector providing a third of all rural income. It made India the world’s largest milk producer, doubled the milk available for each person, and increased milk output four-fold in 30 years.

He pioneered the Anand model of dairy cooperatives and replicated it nationwide, based on various “top-down” and “bottom-up” approaches, where no milk from a farmer was refused and 70–80% of the price by consumers was paid in cash to dairy farmers who controlled the marketing, procurement, and processing of milk and milk products as the dairy’s owners. An invention at Amul was the production of milk powder from buffalo milk instead of from cow milk, which was in short supply in India.

He also made India self-sufficient in edible oils and fought against the “oil kings”, who used underhanded and violent methods to enforce their dominance over the oilseed industry.

THE LIGHTHOUSE

House of Heart's avatar

I am a lone bird wheeling jagged edges

of ancient cliffs above the shallows

of a rough Dover sea.

My feathers gleam in the beam of

the lighthouse where gentle swells

pulse against rocky shores

where in dreams you held me tenderly like

treasured pearls.

I have abandoned the lighthouse

that seems to lean closer to the sea

waiting in vain at the tide swept shore.

The beam has ceased its search

still each time I pass I  tip my  wing.
