ON CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

It has always been a controversial social issue whether death penalty is a need or not for any crime.

I have little personal views on this topic. At present we have this provision for heinous crimes when the convicts under trial are found guilty of the crime.

We need to think how liberal can we be to either forgive or punish someone for a crime. The primary cause behind any crime is false education and lack of values. When people live a life not well connected with others in society they tend to develop criminal mindset as pain of others don’t affect them. They live and die for their own amusement.

Few tend to feel they are more powerful than others and what if they do something extraordinary that average people can’t think of. They can always find an escape route. They misuse when they don’t know the real use of power.

The purpose of any punishment should be to bring change in society. Change in our thoughts and action. We may look at change in others but the convicts are not allowed in this case. There is no scope for them to change and come back to society again. Have we started believing some people can’t be changed at all.

People with a criminal state of mind tend to be more inhuman by nature these days. They sometimes commit a crime to have fun without any thought of the outcome of their madly action.

With capital punishment the scope for change is shrinking and intolerance increasing leading to a more inhumane society. While some may see it as an example for others to guard themselves and not even think of committing such a crime, in reality we observe little change in society with the attitude of people. Fear factor may not work well all the time.

People these days demand punishment and they feel happy when government fulfills their demand. I don’t understand well if it’s to give justice or under pressure. They demand to put an end to another life that caused great pain to their lives. As an outcome the possibility of false encounters can’t be ruled out.

Inhumanity at rise and government feels pressure while making decisions. As citizens we need to respect a decision and should have no say in judicial matters. Media here has great responsibility not to provoke people.

There are many constraints now because of the mindset of people and the way we have built our society that prevents us thinking about any historic decision for sustainable social change. We grew ourselves up and developed that mindset over a brief period.

We have to think seriously now whether time has come or not. When I started thinking about this sort of punishment I went back to history and read what great personalities had to say about it. Below are few of the thoughts from great indian orators as it is published in the “penguin book of modern Indian speeches…”

KNOWING SAINT VALENTINE

I had little knowledge about the significance of valentine’s day. I heard  about it for the first time in india during the days of my graduation many years back. I came to know it as the martyrdom day of saint valentine. It is mostly observed among youth to celebrate love.

I thought like why any specific day of the year when love is such a powerful force and great value to be celebrated every day of the year. By this time I was curious to know more about saint valentine and the significance of this day.

In our place where society is very conservative, It has always been under controversy as something derived from western culture and not originally part of us. There is strong opposition by different communities in india on this day and they feel it should be replaced as parents worship day.

I read articles on web to know more about it. Following are few good source of information.

MY SANCTUARY

Chitkala Aditosh (Chitkala Mulye)'s avatarChitkala Mulye

When I shiver with fear,
My eye will drop a tear,
I will need someone dear,
To be there to hear;

My heart sinks so low,
And my smile says ” no”,
Tough stories all in a row,
You will be the first to know;

The grief will crowd in a hurry,
My wish I would try to bury,
With every reason to worry,
In you I will find my sanctuary!

WORSHIP FROM OUR HEART

Pure Glory's avatarPure Glory

by Apostle Gabriel Cross

Worship is only a verb, when our heart is in it. Regardless, of what the world says or how the enemy is trying to paint your picture, remind him, “I believe in something More!”

God is my more than enough. He is more than the whole world against me. Who can be against me, when I know God is for me?

Lord, your worship is in my heart because my heart is in You.

HOW BIG IS YOUR DREAM

I was inspired to write on this topic while listening to a speech early morning today. I will not rewrite the speech but represent my analysis of the speech as i understood.

पिता (FATHER)

I love this poem. Here the love of a child for father is very well expressed.

I tried with Google translator on the original poem written in hindi language and got the following.

I find those in the mind,
I bow that head there,
Under whose shadow
I am able to define,
Thoughts which I can do,
Bring success to life,
They are such priests,
Whose I am called son.

Whenever hopeless ever happens,
Or get upset,
While still on the path,
The path gets confused,
Then the mother gives wishes,
And from where I bring patience,
Resolving confusing paths,
Then I get it from ancestral knowledge,
They are such priests,
Whose songs I sing.

WINNING AS A HABIT

Success and failure are all part of life. People who understand and learn from failure can become more successful in their endeavours when they overcome the pain of failure.

I am a sports lover and a big fan of Indian cricket team. I love to watch them in action on the field. I too watch all the gesture, their body language and team communication.

I was inspired to write this blog post after watching the boys in action in the recent T20 international of the ongoing series with the Kiwis.

Winning for some is a choice, few get it by chance and for the elite few it’s a habit. There is no looking back when you are a winner. I beleive our cricket team has gained a lot of inspiration and motivation in the current series.
There is all gain and no loss. It’s not because they are unbeaten so far in the series but in many other aspects like the uplifting and ever increasing team morale.

It was a comfortable ride for the team in the first two encounters in this T20I series. The first one was a high scoring match and the boys displayed great character with both bat and ball to win it comfortably chasing second. You gain lot of courage and self belief when you successfully chase a high score in this limited over format of the game.

The second one also won with ease which was a complete team effort. The next two games were not very high scoring and our boys stretched both games to super overs that eventually won by them. The seemingly easy games for the Kiwis snatched away by our boys and our skipper admitted that. It’s a great display of character by our boys and especially the seamers with the ball.

In the super overs we won both encounter by the heroics of our boys. It’s not by chance but because of the game plan with high team morale. Fortune favours the brave. They wanted to make it right from the first ball and preferred not to wait and observe the bowler. The bowler is always on the back foot in an over when the first ball is a big hit.

I beleive our boys have made it up a habit as winners giving equal importance to win each game and not just a series win which is already with us. Today we have the last match of this T20I series. On this occasion i wish our heroes great time on the ground. Let’s witness another great game of cricket!

TIME FOR OUR OWN

Time flies. We often plan activities but fail to execute in search of quality time. It’s crucial for success how we spend our time.

I have some experience I’d like to share. I am a person who loves to spend time with nature and kids. I love biodiversity. I love to watch children playing as they provide me good learning with their activities. It’s pure and godly. They do everything naturally out of their mind with less outer influence. To my good fortune i have the time now to spend time with kids.

I am passionate about reading and writing. I love to live my passion. It’s not just me but with many in my circle who want to live their passion. Though most of us like to spend quality time, many among my friends complain about better time management when they fail to do so. Me too no different.

I have divided my day to make it simple as work time, non-work time. My time away from work involves food time, sleep time, kids time, friends/family time and self time. Self time is the period i want to spend with God, nature and with my passion. At present my self time is the least of all and the least utilized time.

If you ask me how much time i would like to spend in each category, my choice would be my self time and then the required time with kids. All other time secondary to me. So, i want to increase this time.

How do you work out with your plan? Assume you have the luxury to spend all time now away from work as a sabbatical or some other category where you need not have to work at office for a month. This period you want to spend time with kids and for your passion.

How to distribute time evenly for all activity. The constraint is when you are with kids you can’t pursue your other passion as kids can’t be neglected. You must watch and observe them. Sometimes i wait for them to sleep so that i can continue with other activities. Kids love me and i can’t avoid them. You have to spend time with few kids daily in the age group one to six. You are not a mother and have no experience how to spend good time with them. Out of all time you must devote half for kids and most of the remaining as self time.

Are you struggling to find good time for your own? It’s very much essential for nourishment of our soul. If you had bitter experience in past and successfully overcome that it could provide learning material for others struggling and seeking advice.

Let all know about our experiences in past or present. We can help all by sharing information on how good or bad we managed our time in the past. What steps we took to overcome bad time management and make best use of our time.

I’d love to learn from your experience if i can relate myself and gain valuable information much needed for me.

WHEN I AM A SLAVE OF MY MIND

I was trying to understand what blocks me think more positive. Why at times i am unable to control my mind and get carried away. I discussed with people in my community to understand if they have ever encountered such situations and how they feel that time. I asked what they do to overcome and gain more control over their mind.

In this process i came to learn great lessons from a story on mental slavery. I will narrate the story here in my words.

FOR HIM WITH LOVE

Nice poem with great expression of human emotions…

Vrunda's avatarVrunda Chauk

i fall for him when he calls me “princess”

i fall for him when shows kindness for humans and animals alike

i fall for him when he knows me more than i understand myself

i fall for him when he genuinely shows interest in things i love

i fall for him when he is angry and then even more angry coz he can’t stay mad at me

i fall for him when he touches me without using his hands

i fall for him when he tells me he would still love me the same even when i make a mess

i fall for him when he understands the pain I’ve been through and promises me a “happily ever after”

i fall for him when he understands and supports my passion

i fall for him when he encourages me to be the best version of myself

i fall for him when…
